Great Article in the Toledo Blade newspaper featuring The Kitchen Salon founder Megan Yasu Davis. Here’s an excerpt:

Hot combs and hair relaxers helped, but not even the black power era — when the afro became popular — stopped black girls and women from getting their hair done in professional salons and the private kitchens of black homes so that their hair wouldn’t be “nappy.”
…And now another movement is afoot: Growing numbers of black women are embracing their natural hair in a variety of styles. In Toledo, Megan Davis, 35, is at the center of the trend, working to educate and empower women about natural hair.
